Food For Thought

In that day shall the branch of the Lord be beautiful & glorious, & the fruit of the earth shall be excellent …
Isaiah 4:2

Food is a symbol of God’s love, care & substance.  And should be eaten with thanksgiving.
Ernest Holmes

What Did You Have For Breakfast?

No matter what you experience, there is more to it than meets the eye. Take something simple like breakfast, for example. You look forward to breaking your fast with food & drink that pleasures you. But the next time you eat breakfast, instead of merely enjoying the flavors of the foods, why not give thanks for all the hands, souls & natural forces that went into it’s preparation.

Have you ever had the joy of seeing oranges on a tree, or inhaling the fragrance of orange blossoms? There is a farmer who cares for those trees as though they were his children, lighting smudge pots when too cold & making sure they’re properly fed. Think of all the hands involved – harvesting, packaging & distributing, not to mention store owners & workers, so you can have a glass of juice at breakfast!

Then, let your mind travel to the toast on your plate. Perhaps you have seen golden wheat fields waving in the wind. Imagine you are eating the sunshine, the rain & wind!
Now, look at the eggs. Have you ever listened to a hen, as she proudly delivers her prize production? Her cries of joy get louder & louder until the crescendo reaches it peak & voilá … there, in her nest, is the egg! Or, picture cattle grazing on a sunny spring day, against a velvet green backdrop of meadow – truly a picture of beauty encompassed in your glass of cool fresh milk.

AFFIRMATION
The universe is in perfect order. I work with love for the good of all life, just as the world lovingly provides all I need. I am grateful for every facet of my life & never cease to wonder at its marvels. I am thankful I am provided with so many rare jewels … the fruit of the earth.
Thank you God!
